Where to buy?
I usually buy my coconut flour online. Not only is it convenient, but it can also be cheaper than buying at the supermarket. Also, not every supermarket will always have it available, and who really has the time to go to different ones? (Am I right?)
Bob’s Red Mill Organic Coconut Flour is well known in the coconut flour pancakes and baking community. It’s pretty cheap for the quality you’re getting, and you can find lots of recipes online to give you ideas on how to use it!
I use Bob’s Red Mill Organic Coconut Flour as well as Nutiva’s Coconut Flour when I make my coconut flour pancakes. Bob’s Red Mill is 100% organic coconut flour, made purely from coconut meat. It also has a natural sweet flavor, which makes it perfect for my coconut flour pancakes, crepes, muffins and dessert breads!
Take a look at the nutritional value:
Even though it has “carbs” most of the actual carbs are dietary fiber. Our bodies actually do not digest the dietary fiber found in coconut flour, meaning we don’t derive any carb calories from the coconut flour in itself. You could actually eat this stuff with a spoon without having to worry about your weight! In coconut flour pancakes it also makes a pretty good source of proteins and vitamins.
Another great thing to look at is that a serving size is 2 tablespoons. Yes, you read that right. Coconut flour is very dense, and a little goes a long long way. Actually, unless you’re baking every day, (and there’s nothing wrong with that!) you won’t need to restock as often as other flours because you only need a little for coconut flour recipes. In my coconut flour pancakes I use only 1/2 cup to make 10 pancakes, which is half the amount I would use with other flours.
Reviews for Bob’s Red Mill Organic Coconut Flour:
“I was happy to find that Bob’s Red Mill doesn’t have the occasional gritty and sandy textures like in other brands. This coconut flour is fairly mild in flavor, but naturally sweetens dishes. I use this for my smoothies, pancakes, muffins, brownies, and pizza crusts. It also works well if you want to use it to thicken sauces. I bought 32 pounds of this, but I wish it was sold in 50 pound sacks!”
“This is a good product for gluten free cooking! I haven’t made a lot with it so far, but I’m finding it’s a great substitute for wheat flour. I really like Bob’s Red Mill products, and I’m gonna try banana bread this weekend.”
“Just received mine today and was so impressed with the “flour” like texture. It’s so powdery and soft. I made my own coconut flour before, but it still had a coconut gritty texture no matter how much I tried to chop/blend it. Very happy and great price!”
